Yogyakarta, known as Jogja, as the center of javanese art and culture, has various kinds of fascinating tourism attractions. This is the reason why people prefer to go to jogja than the other cities because jogja is the cradle of javanese culture. Jogja, the old elegant city similar to Solo, is one of two central traditional palaces of javanese culture that still remain.
Beautiful environments, traditional architecture, social customs and ritual ceremonies make jogja as the most interesting place to visit. Traditional arts, such as gamelan orchestra and traditional dance will always remind to audiences to the atmosphere of jogja in centuries ago. This province also acknowledge as interesting place for researchers, geologist, and vulcanologist due to the cave in the limestone areas and of its active volcano. Yogyakarta, is awarded as a special province status due to its role in the time of Indonesian struggle.

ULLEN SENTALU MUSEUM
Visitors of this Museum can take a look at the collections of batik with royal pattern of Jogja and solo palace made by Javanese females and house hold goods of traditional family.

AFFANDI MUSEUM

There are not other Museums in Jogja that can be compared with this Museum that is located on Laksda Adisucipto Street. Affandi is an indonesian painter who is well knwn all over the world and died in 1990. the affandi Museum keeps fine artworks of affandi’s as well as by his famous daughter, Kartika Affandi, and also other impressionist painters.


KOTAGEDE

Kotagede is historical area because it is an inheritance of the Islamic mataram Kingdom in the 16 century. There are ancient buildings such as beteng and watu gilang in this area. There are also a mosque and the grave yard of the first Islamic King of mataram, Panembahan Senopati. Kotagede is still becomes sacred place for devotional visits.


KOTAGEDE (SILVER HANDICRAFT TOWN)
Located 5 km from the center of the city, this small and historical old city is famous as silver town. Silver handicraft started to rise when sultan agung reigns because there had been much demand for silver and gold items at sultan’s palace. Many people live in kotagede earn their living as silversmith. You can buy silver art for souvenir or private collections.


BOROBUDUR TEMPLE
This glorious Buddhist Temple is located 42 km from Jogja. Built between the year of 750 – 850, borobudur is a world heritage archeological site which has 7 levels and 1460 carved stones. The illustration carved on the stone illustrated the Buddhist story and reflect life in the world before reaching heaven.


SAMBISARI TEMPLE
Situated 12 km from Jogja in Sambisari Vilage, this temple was found in 1966 when a farmer accidentally hit the top of the Temple burried in his filed with the hoe. Based on the geological research of the rocks and soil, it is discovered that the 6 meters high Temple was burried by the explosion materials of merapi mountain 1n 1006.


PRAMBANAN TEMPLE
Prambanan Temple consist of three main Temples surrounded by small Temples called perwara. Located 17 km from Jogja, prambanan Temple is an inheritance of the hindus in 9 century.


RATU BOKO TEMPLE
Located 3 km from prambanan Temple, the Temple consist of a gate, a burning Temple, paseban (audience’s hall), pendapa and a keputren bathing area.


PURAWISATA
Purawisata is the most complete recreational center in Jogja. Located in brigjen katamso Street, purawisata is comprised of several facilities including ria tourist park, open air theater of sendratari ramayana and djimbaran garden restaurant.


GEMBIRA LOKA ZOO
Located of the edge of Jogja, the zoo can be reached by various Kinds of transportaion including becak, andong, and city buses. The zoo has many varieties of animals from indonesia and overseas including veranus komodoensis, tapir and armadillo which are endangered.


KIDS FUN
It is fun park located at the 10 km of wonosari Street that provides a range of rides and entertainment not only for Kids but also for the whole family.

SYUHADA MOSQUE
This mosque is a three level building with modern architecture located on the edge of code river, kotabaru Jogja. The word “syuhada” reminds us about the Islamic heroes who had died in syahid. The three level building reminds about the borobudur Temple with its kamadatu, rupadatu, and arupadatu stages.


GANJURAN(HATI KUDUS) CHURCH

It is a catholic place of worship that is located in ganjuran village, bantul 17 km south of Jogja. It was built in april 16, 1924 by the SCMUTZEN family, owner of gondanglipuro sugar factory, as their gratitude to god for the blessings. The shape of this church is a Temple where the “hati kudus” and “raja kristus” statues are palced as a symbol of the fatherly and motherly characteristics, justice and peace from god to the country.


LABUHAN PANTAI SELATAN CEREMONY
In this ceremony, woman clothes make up, betel, flowers and many others are dedicated to the south sea as the sign of people request for their prosperity and safety to ratu Kidul, queen of the south.


LABUHAN MERAPI CEREMONY
Held in 30 rejeb (month of Java) in the series of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono coronation as the sultan ngaYogyakarta hadiningrat, this ceremony brought flowers and food served for the spirits to kendhit gunung merapi by Ki Juru Kunci as sign of people request for prosperity and welfare.


WAYANG KULIT (PUPPET LEATHER)
Javanese people like the the wayang stories very much. The stories show many aspect of the Javanese culture. The art of wayang teaches us about good deeds that can be guidance for the people’s life. Wayang kulit is made from inlaid and colored buffalo sKin and perform together with gamelan orchestra.
